Yellowstone National Park, WY

This 7-night trip, led by John Bennett, runs from February 8-15.

John writes: ”Experience the splendor and beauty of Yellowstone Park in the winter. See thermal pools, geysers, and wild life in the snow. Ski, snowshoe, ice skate or take a guided tour of Mammoth Hot Springs and Old Faithful areas of the park, a unique experience.”

A deposit of 50 percent of the package price is required when you book, which is payable by credit card. Room cost for two people for the week is $1592.00; for a single, it’s $1128.00. Price includes the room, breakfast each day, snow coach transportation between hotels, and a ten percent discount card.

Group roundtrip bus transportation is $600.00 each way from the airport via Mini Coach (24 person capacity) to the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel. Entrance fee to the park, taxes, and gratuity for the driver are contingent on the number of people aboard the bus.

Eagle Mountain House, Jackson, NH

This year’s club trip to the Eagle Mountain House in Jackson, New Hampshire, takes place from February 26-March 2. Our leader is Charles Elioseff.

We will again be staying at this historic hotel, which dates to the 1870’s. Rooms are very comfortable, and there’s a charming lobby and a reading room, both with fireplaces. The coffee pot is always on in the morning, and there’s always a warming fire. We’ll have a large room all to ourselves for evening get-togethers. There’s also a small gym and a hot tub.

This year’s rates are $433 person double and $610 per person for a single room. Included are full breakfast and dinner daily, five days skiing on the Great Glen Cross-Country ski trail (about 15 minutes from EMH), and all taxes and tips. Discounted tickets are available at the hotel desk for the Jackson Cross-Country ski trails, which begin outside EMH’s front door. Bretton Woods, which many of us like, is also nearby, as are several other areas.

An important note about cancellation: This year, EMH is again requiring the club to provide a $500 deposit, which will be refunded to us at the end of our stay; but if we cancel as a club after January 1 (meaning that a majority of us cancel), then we forfeit that deposit.

Here’s the point you should remember: if most of us who made a reservation cancel --as we did five years ago -- than those who cancel are obligated to repay the club for their portion of the $500 outlay. That’s not as bad as it sounds since if we have, say, 25 people going who cancel, that amounts to $20 a person, a penalty that’s far better than any of the other resorts we go to.

To make a reservation, simply call EMH at 1-800-966-5779 and identify yourself as an LICCSC member. The EMH staff person will take the pertinent information, such as roommate, dietary restrictions, and credit card information.
